David Kibuuka`s Vision: The Lumu Kabasindi Foundation
All children have a right to education and basic health care. The Lumu Kabasindi Foundation (LKF) focuses on the mission of providing orphaned children of HIV/AIDS in Africa with food, shelter, education and health care. LKF`s initiative is framed by the vision of helping to nurture orphans in developing skills through quality education in order to be self-sustaining members of the global community. This idea was instilled in the heart of artist David Kibuuka by his parent`s Bossa Lumu and Kajoka Kabasindi who loved and helped other children who were not family.
Born in Uganda, David Kibuuka was a blossoming artist who began selling paintings through local galleries at age 11. With his maturing talent, David immigrated to Canada in 1983 to finish his studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design. Throughout his entire career, David has always put aside 25% of all his published art prints towards donation to a number of organizations to help raise funds for poor children around the world.
From 1990-1993, Kibuuka supported UNICEF in a world wide fundraising effort to aid UNICEF Children`s Foundation. Greeting cards of four of David`s art prints were sold. One of which was sold across Europe, Asia, North America, South America, and Africa, with the remaining three images sold in the USA and Europe. Other charitable initiatives David has supported include World Vision Canada, and Artisitc Canada Hope Initiative which provide prevention, care and advocacy programs for children and those affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa.
In 2007, David Kibuuka founded the The Lumu Kabasindi Foundation (LKF) following his belief and passion to help orphaned children of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Uganda. David shares:
`` I began to put in place the Lumu Kabasindi Foundation that will bring new hope to orphans whose parents died from HIV/AIDS in Uganda.
A staggering number of Ugandan children have been orphaned by war and the HIV/AIDS pandemic that have ravaged Africa today. Thousands of these children are hit by tragedy at a very young age and are left to care for themselves and their siblings. The foundation will provide some basic tools to these orphans. We will provide food, shelter, education and health care for children from pre-school to secondary.
...I have donated some of my land in Uganda where the foundation will be built...``
To help raise funds for LKF's first major project of building an orphanage and school for children who have been left destitute due to the AIDS/HIV epidemic in Uganda, you are invited to
