Global Medic Fund Raising Gala

This is the mission. The sole purpose of the foundation is to help people in developing countries specifically in the field of emergency medicine and relief issues.

To this end one of the main goals of the foundation is

"To develop a prehospital emergency medical care training package and deliver it to hospitals in developing countries along with paramedic equipment in order to enhance emergency medical services."

Capacity Building Missions range from areas such as Sri Lanka (2003)to Cambodia (2006), to present day Iraq.

In Sri Lanka
85 nationals from the Mine Advisory Group (MAG) were trained in trauma management
A specialized training program and certification for MAG to conduct future training was created

In Cambodia
6.5 million tablets of essentail medicines were donated
42 landmine clearance medics were trained
Bio-sand filtration unit molds -which now produce 70 liters of drinking water per month were commissioned
A school house was built

In Iraq
To date (Feb 2008), GlobalMedic in partnership with Mines Advisory Group (MAG) were asked to send a team to Kurdistan in Northern Iraq to train MAG Landmine Clearance Medics on emergency trauma treatment ranging from blast injuries to poisonous snake bites.

After 25 years of conflict Iraq is considered to have one of the highest contaminations of landmines and unexploded ordinance (UXO) in the world. This not only delays economic and rehabilitation development, but also causes many civilian casualties.

Rob Selfridge and Bill McCracken are two Toronto EMS paramedics on this mission in Iraq to provide hands on training and practical exercises in Trauma Management to medics working with UXO Clearance Teams. This "Trauma Management and Field Medicine for Landmine/UXO Clearance Teams" have been implemented in Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Sudan,

Capacity building.
