What's our Motive?
Posted under Features, |
We often get asked about the philosophy behind MOTIVE - what idea sparked the creation of a movement that seeks to do good in the world through art? How can the creation and appreciation of art be linked to the idea of supporting charities and making the world a better place.
Well, we've started a discussion in our Forums about this, and a recent comment by Blake puts it pretty succinctly:
It has been my experience that most artists, writers and actors are very conscious of the world around them and are very often giving back to their society through their work. We all want to leave the world a better place for our children, I think that is a given.
The idea that I am trying to put forward in this whole initiative is that I see the artist as having a very important role because the artist has a voice through which they can speak. Commentary is good but we need to go further than this. Today we need action and I believe that we can act through our art and I would like to assist artists to be heard. This is what Motive can do.
So what is Motive?
• Motive is an initiative that unites artists and helps their voice be heard.
• It is about the role of the artist in society.
• Motive promotes the social responsibility of artists to use their art to raise awareness of specific social issues and to constructively engage their audience to provide effective assistance.
Our work involves:
• Researching the issues and exploring methods of engaging public support for art-based solutions.
• Informing the public and engaging in constructive debate concerning social issues and positive action.
• Fostering dialogue between people to explore creative solutions.
• Promoting education using art and web technologies.
Motive is what we make it!
