5th Annual Blundtsone's Boot it UP Benefit for Sketch
On September 25th Sketch held its 5th annual Blundstone Boot it UP Benefit toward Working Arts for Street-Involved and Homeless Youth. Approximately 40 pairs of Blundstone boots including kid's Blunnies were artistically transformed by top artists, celebrities and ad agencies to create outrageous and unique footwear.
The fun filled evening was able to generate close to $30,000, withthe winning boot (pictured here) bringing in $3500 in the auction portion of the evening. The top 10 boots were displayed at the Bata Shoe Museum from September 27th through to October 5th, 2008.
Sketch programs provide access to youth who are at different places in their lives.
They are a community arts initiative that works to create opportunities for street-involved and homeless youth to engage in the arts. It is a safe space to explore and express feelings, opinions and stories through art making. It is a place for skill building through instructional workshops with established artists, offering a progressive learning framework that can lead to long-term sustainable change -or drop in sessions on a day to day basis. Youth choose their entry, their tools and determine the process. True to Community Arts practice, the process is as important as (sometimes more important than) the product. It is a framework that can be transported to any place.
Sketch supports and facilitates community connections with education, leadership and apprenticeships in arts industries through exhibition, performance and the sale of work. Sketch provides a safe space to play and explore -a violence free, drug and alcohol free, insult free environment.
