Fragments Introduced in Monaco

Blake is the official sculptor for Cinema Verite 2007, an international film festival held in Monaco. The theme for Cinema Verite this year was landmines. Blake's Fragments sculptures are each named after a landmine and the sculptures were featured prominently in the program.
Fragments is a series of twenty hauntingly beautiful quarter-life size bronze sculptures by Canadian sculptor Blake that are deliberately disfigured to represent the damage done to the human body and spirit by landmines. Blake has generously donated 75% of the proceeds from sales of this entire collection of bronze sculpture to No More Landmines, the UK partner for the global Adopt a Minefield campaign. The Fragments partnership with No More Landmines supports their global work in removing landmines and providing survivor support.
Neil Morrans, Director of No More Landmines said, ‘It has been a real pleasure to work with an artist who has matched his great artistic talent with his desire to help those whose lives are blighted by this devastating legacy of war. Unexploded weapons kill and injure innocent people every day but Blake's contribution will make a significant difference to this global crisis.'
Pre-exhibition sales of the sculptures have already generated income which has cleared landmines, cluster bombs and other unexploded weapons from communities and villages in Vietnam. In Angola, Fragments sculptures have funded the purchase of mapping equipment to identify minefields thereby enhancing the safety of the people who live there.
The Fragments collection is now showing at Chapter House in the Canterbury Cathedral until the 25th of October. From the 1st to 17th of November Fragments is showing at La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade, 5 Pall Mall, London.
