ART FOR LIFE'S SAKE
No More Landmines is proud to announce a unique sculpture exhibition. Fragments, is a collection of 20 quarter life-size bronze sculptures by Canadian artist Blake. The proceeds of his entire collection of Fragments sculptures, 75% to 80% of the sales price is being generously donated to No More Landmines.
Blake's shocking, yet hauntingly beautiful sculptures, were inspired by his experiences in Vietnam where he witnessed the tragedy of landmines. The exhibition's broken bodies tell of the tragedy of war, but also man's enduring instinct for survival.
Neil Morrans, Director of No More Landmines said ‘It has been a real pleasure to work with an artist who has matched his great artistic talent with his desire to help those whose lives are blighted by this devastating legacy of war. Unexploded weapons kill and injure innocent people every day but Blake's contribution will make a significant difference to this global crisis.'
Pre-Exhibition sales of the sculptures have already generated income which has cleared communities and villages in Vietnam of landmines, cluster bombs and other unexploded weapons, and enabled release of previously contaminated land in Angola back to the people who need it most.
The Fragments series will be shown at Canterbury Cathedral from 13th to 25th October 2007 and at La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade, 5 Pall Mall from 1st to 17th November 2007.
We would be delighted to arrange a viewing and interview with the artist and the charity Director over the exhibition period.
